Russian Super League 22/23

I will give only the results, since I have very mixed feelings...

There will be 13 teams in this season. Instead of Ufa-Alisa the St. Petersburg team Baltiyskaya Zarya will play, and for whatever reason there will be the Chinese NT as "Phoenix". The system has changed: in the first part it will be a normal championship (24 games for each team), and then there will be a bit complicated play-off.

Lada left several first choice players at home to have a rest and paid the price. Kirdyasheva is still out of form, maybe a change of team would be the only remedy for her plight.

Lada are in trouble, yesterday they lost to Astrakhanochka in Tolyatti. Another surprise (al least for me) is that Kuban' lost the game in Stavropol'.

Today's big match: CSKA Moscow - Rostov-Don 32:27 (13:10). The most interesting game was, however, Zvezda - Lada. In the first half Lada were comfortably leading by 2 or 3 goals (15:18). The second half was quite different. Zvezda scored seven goals in a row and took a five goals lead (26:21, 27:22). Then came Kirdyasheva: she scored 6 times in the last 9 minutes and Lada won by 3 goals (31:34) Kirdyasheva had 12 goals, hopefully she will keep that form

The two referees, who IMHO robbed Lada of victory in Rostov, may face the consequences. Shishkarev want them banned In this case I think he is absolutely right. The judgements of the referees were indeed scandalous.

Irina Nikitina received a red card and Rostov awarded a penalty for this action (it happened in the last 30 seconds of the game).

Yes. That happens, if the president of the federation is the boss of a specific club (CSKA in this case), too. It's a clear message to all referees: in doubt they shall never decide for Rostov.

This is a completely legitimate view, and also true. On the other hand, the ban of the referees is also completely justified. I saw the game.

The Russian Superleague had the first games of the new year today, with some upsets. The biggest one is: Rostov-Astrakhanochka 32:33! A minor suprise is the draw in Tolyatti: Lada-Kuban' 26:26.

This was Rostov's fourth defeat of the season.

The quarterfinals of the play-offs is over. CSKA Moscow, Rostov-Don, Lada Tolyatii and - quite surprisingly - Zvezda Zvenigorod advanced to the semis.
